Book Description
Overwatch tells the story from the perspectives around a squad loosely based on the German Army’s 76th Infantrie Division on the Eastern Front during the latter days of World War II.
The unit is kept lively by Rupert Schmidt, a peculiar veteran with a tendency for pulling shenanigans. Schmidt is equally determined to ensure his comrades survive as he is to ensure they each do not lose their humanity from brutality the war has devolved into. When inexperienced replacements flood the frontlines in a vain effort to stop the imminent advance of the Soviet Union, an eager recruit with a tendency to daydream named Bruno Lindemann is assigned directly underneath Schmidt to be taught the ropes. However, the two clash between conflicting personalities, the constant pressure of the battlefield, and from the fanatical influence of the Nazi’s S.S. on the Army soldiers. But with the war growing progressively more futile, will Schmidt be able to mend the differences with his recruit to teach him how to survive and cope with the fighting? Can they prevent their squad from being completely annihilated? And of course, will they survive?
